Malappuram: The Tirur police on Saturday registered cases against 200 persons in connection with the clashes between UDF and LDF activists on Friday night. The workers of two fronts clashed each other during the victory rally, taken out by UDF activists after its candidate Musthafa Nediyil won at Thumarakkav ward of Tirur municipality in the by-election.
The situation turned violent when LDF activists took out another rally alleging irregularities in counting of votes and claiming victory in the by-election.
Though police intervened the issue, the activists started stone pelting, which left Tirur SI Sumesh Sudhakar and CI K M Shaji injured. Sudhakar was admitted in Tirur Government Hospital with a injury on his leg while Shaji was injured on his hand. UDF candidate retained the ward with a majority of two votes.
